For mobile app folks who are trying to grow their subscription revenue, there are 2 ways it typically goes...

Scenario A: You do all of it yourself.

You read everything from expert teardowns, newsletters, & case studies, to the latest trending hacks on X/Linkedin. There's more free material on paywalls and onboarding in 2026 than any one team can act on.

So you start running experiments. A price change here. A new onboarding screen there. Something you saw a top-grossing app doing last week. But nothing much moves.

Months go by. You still don't know your highest-converting paywall, onboarding and monetization setup. And the months you spent finding that out are months you never get back.

Scenario B: You borrow an expert who does this for a living.

Someone tells you which experiment to run first, and why that one before the others. You stop spending your test volume on ideas that were never going to win. And you go from testing randomly to building systems that compound your revenue over time.

This 1:1 advisory exists for those who want to live scenario B

I always enjoy working in the trenches with done-for-you services. But now with AI in the equation, most teams can go from idea to design to shipped build at lightning speed. The bottleneck moved for many.

Teams that used to need me to build the thing now mostly need me to tell them what to build and in what order.

I keep getting the same inbound request: "can we get your advice on our bottom-of-funnel and monetization metrics, without the full done-for-you program?"

Enough times that it became a standalone offer on its own This is it.

You're in the right place if at least 1 of these problems sound familiar...

Image: 3 root problems halting your app revenue growth

Image: 3 root problems halting your app revenue growth

  1. You know what you could test. But you don't know what to test first → "I could probably list 20 things worth testing over the next year. What I can't tell is which one to run first, or which one matters most right now. That's the bit I want from someone who does this for a living."
  2. You have the tools & infrastructure. But you don't have the judgement & ownership → "We've got the infrastructure to personalise our content and packages. What we're missing is the right mindset to actually use it. Nobody here has run enough of these to know which lever to pull."
  3. You find it easy to bring traffic. But you find it hard to get them pay → "We're doing 1K+ installs a day and converting close to none of it. We don't need more traffic atm. We need the bottom of the funnel fixed."
  4. Trial-start & trial-to-paid numbers not yet ideal for scaling paid ads profitably → "Our 2 problem numbers are trial start rate and trial conversion rate. We're already putting time into first session and onboarding, but we could really use help on the paywall side."
  5. The experiments themselves aren't working → "We've got a few paywall experiments running. But half the time I'm not even confident we set the hypothesis up right."
  6. Monetization number that used to be healthy is going backwards → "Install-to-paid on iOS just dropped below Android for the first time ever, a few weeks back. I don't know what changed and I don't know where to start looking."
  7. You're stuck on pricing and can't find the edge →"I'm thinking of going hard paywall, or keeping the trial and raising prices a lot. But honestly I don't know where the balance sits. Raise the prices? Change onboarding first? I've been going round in circles for weeks.
  8. Your paywall doesn't say what your app is actually worth →"We're not doing a good job of communicating the benefits we offer. People reach the paywall and I don't think they understand what they're getting for the money."
  9. You're stretched thin on core product work. Nobody completely owns your monetization funnel →"I'm building our own community layer into the app and it's a lot of design work. But someone needs to take onboarding and the first 7-day journey to the next level while I'm doing that. I need to be able to trust them with it."

This is FOR you if you want to...

  1. Stop going around in circles. No more running a test because you saw a screenshot of it. Every initiative gets a reason for running now instead of next quarter.
  2. Get your precious time back. The whole point is skipping the trial and error I've already paid for on other people's apps.
  3. Build a structured growth discipline. A documented hypothesis, a primary metric and guardrail metrics agreed before anything ships. So a win is a win, and a loss still teaches you something.
  4. Get senior monetization judgment without a full-time hire. Imagine a hiring process that eats 3 months and a salary before it produces a single experiment. You want the most efficient part, starting this week.
  5. Bring a sparring partner you can trust. Who'll tell you when to stop. Even when the honest answer is "you don't need me right now."

This is NOT for you if...

  1. You have low traffic, or pre-product-market-fit, or have non-existent retention. No paywall test fixes a product people don't come back to, or discover it exists in the first place.
  2. Your app isn't making enough yet to justify the investment. Rule of thumb if you aren't making 3-5X more in monthly proceeds don't invest yet [unless you consciously want to speed up your learning curve].
  3. You need paid user acquisition or top-of-the funnel help. Not my area of expertise. But I can refer you industry-experts I'm friends with.
  4. You want strategy decks that remain unopened on google drive, gathering dusts. You'd rather get slack messages with bullet points, loom videos, figma comments instead.
  5. You want everything done for you. If you want experiments designed, built and shipped end-to-end, this is the wrong option. Find my 2 fully-managed growth services here.

Things we can work together on...

Image: 11 focus areas of D0 user journey in a nutshell

Image: 11 focus areas of D0 user journey in a nutshell

Everything we work together on sits inside my 11FA Monetization & CRO Framework. There are 11 focus areas that cover the most important parts of your D0 user journey [store listing to subscription cancellation].

  1. Visual ASO: screenshots content, icon, custom product pages
  2. Onboarding Funnel: getting a user to first value before the ask
  3. Paywall Placements: where and when the paywall appears
  4. Pricing & Offering: plan mix, trial vs. paid intro, localized pricing
  5. Paywall Design: single-screen vs. multi-step, hierarchy, social proof
  6. Content & Messaging: every single words on the screen
  7. Promotion Offers: discounts, win-back, abandonment-triggered offers
  8. Personalization: with user inputs, traffic source, ad angle
  9. Post-purchase UX: what happens in the minutes after payment
  10. Core feature UX: activation flow, and the upsell in context
  11. Cancellation & Retention Offers: the last conversion surface

In a typical month we won't touch all eleven. We'll pick the two or three where your app is actually leaking, and go there first. That prioritisation is the product.

The numbers I'll own: trial-start rate, trial-to-paid, install-to-paid, revenue per paywall view, and D0/D7/D30 ARPU. With guardrails on refund rate and renewal rate, because a cheaper entry that doesn't renew is a loss in the grand scheme of things.

How's this different from my 2 DFY services?

There are 3 ways to work with me. But they are not three sizes of the same thing. They differ on what you're actually buying. 1:1 advisory is the only one where you take full implementation ownership. Here's a quick summary...

About Muhammad Rahat

I've been working on mobile subscription funnels since 2019. Early on my specialty was on mobile app UX/UI redesign. Thousands of screens later, a pattern got hard to ignore. Teams were pouring money into user acquisition, design and development, and then losing most of it in the first 90 seconds of the product experience.

The moment it clicked was realising nobody was taking end-to-end ownership of those ninety seconds. Designers owned screens. Engineers owned the build. Marketers owned the install. The stretch between install and payment belonged to no one.

In July 2023, I founded Roast My App LLC to own exactly that. It's a founder-led team. I do the research, the hypotheses, the design and the analysis. Meaning, there's no bait-and-switch to junior account executives after our intro call.

When a partnership needs more hands, I do bring in vetted growth PMs, growth product designers and specialist developers I've worked with before, scoped to that engagement. We're small on purpose. And it's also why we only take a few clients at a time.

I also write the Roastmyapp Memos substack newsletter, and post paywall & onboarding experiment ideas that are read by almost 8,000 mobile app founders, UA, and growth folks on my Linkedin.

Frequently asked questions

What is an app growth consultant?

An app growth consultant is an external specialist who advises a mobile app team on how to grow, usually across acquisition, activation, monetization and retention. Most app growth consultants specialise in one part of that list rather than all of it. My specialism is monetization and conversion rate optimization for subscription apps, which means paywalls, onboarding, pricing, packaging, placement, promotions and offers.

How much does the 1:1 advisory cost?

The 1:1 Mobile App CRO and Monetization Growth Advisory is US$1,500 per month, billed monthly, with no long-term lock-in and cancellation at any time. You receive a Stripe customer portal link after checkout so you can manage or cancel the subscription yourself before renewal. A VAT-compliant custom invoice is available on request.

What is the difference between the advisory and your done-for-you services?

In the 1:1 advisory you implement and I direct, so you get prioritized weekly growth initiatives, ad-hoc design and funnel review, and async Slack access for US$1,500 per month. The two done-for-you options are different: 1 paywall A/B test per month at US$1,000 where I design and ship a single experiment for you, and the fully-managed Mobile App Monetization and CRO Program at US$7,000 to US$15,000 per month where my team designs, codes and deploys 4 or more paywall experiments and 2 or more onboarding funnel iterations every month. The advisory is the only one of the three where you do the building.

Should I hire an app growth consultant or a full-time monetization manager?

Hire the full-time manager if the role is fundable and fillable, because a dedicated owner beats a fractional one. Consumer subscription apps typically advertise this role in the region of 50,000 to 70,000 euros plus equity, and it asks for a narrow combination of monetization experience, hands-on paywall implementation, pricing ownership and store mechanics knowledge. A consultant makes more sense when the search is taking months, when you have engineering capacity but not monetization experience, or when your app is not yet large enough to keep a full-time monetization owner busy.

Do you cover keyword optimization, paid user acquisition or ad monetization?

No. I do not run paid media, keyword ASO or ad monetization such as AdMob mediation and eCPM optimization. I work on visual App Store Optimization where it affects conversion, and on everything downstream of the install. If you need paid UA or keyword ASO, I will tell you on the call that I am the wrong hire.

What access do you need to start?

Read-only access is enough. That means App Store Connect, Play Console if you are on Android, Figma, your product analytics tool such as Mixpanel, Amplitude or PostHog, and your subscription platform such as RevenueCat, Superwall, Adapty or Purchasely. If you prefer to create a dedicated email alias for App Store Connect access rather than adding an existing address, that works and it is good practice.

How quickly do you respond?

Async support runs through a shared Slack channel with a response within 24 hours on weekdays. I work from GMT+6, so you can message, email or send voice memos and Loom videos at any hour and I will reply when I am next at my desk.

Is this a month-to-month engagement?

Yes. The advisory is month to month with no long-term lock-in and no minimum term. You can cancel anytime before renewal through your own Stripe customer portal, and you can pause and restart later.

Who owns the work you produce?

You do. All deliverables, materials and work product created specifically for your engagement, including every associated intellectual property right, belong exclusively to your company. All non-public information, data, materials and access you share with me stay confidential and are used only for our work together. If you have your own NDA you would rather use, send it over and I will sign it.
